What is Emergency First Aid?
Emergency First Aid (EFA) certification course designed to teach you how to respond to life-threatening emergencies at work, at home, or in public. It includes CPR Level C and AED training, and is fully WSIB-compliant under Ontario regulations.

Emergency First Aid Course Description
201- Course Introduction
Learn how the Emergency Medical System (EMS) works and understand the vital role of a First Aider. This section covers the definition and objectives of First Aid, along with important legal considerations, including protection under the Good Samaritan Act when providing emergency assistance.
202 - Emergency Scene Management
Learn how to assess an emergency scene safely and respond effectively. This section covers how to identify hazards, recognize life-threatening conditions, and provide immediate care. You’ll also learn how to monitor the injured person, document the incident, and transfer care to emergency services or medical professionals.
203 - Primary Survey and Shock
Learn to recognize and manage life-threatening conditions, including breathing difficulties, severe bleeding, and injuries to the chest, pelvis, or femur. This section also covers spinal precautions, the recovery position, and how to identify and respond to signs of shock.
204 - Ongoing Care
Monitor, comfort, and reassure the victim while transferring care to professional responders or a healthcare facility.
205 - Heart Disease and Heart Attack
A basic understanding of the circulatory system, including narrowed arteries and high blood pressure. Identifying signs and symptoms of angina, heart attacks, and potential strokes. Knowing the appropriate actions to take during a heart or stroke emergency, including helping the victim take their prescribed medications.
206 - Sudden Cardiac Arrest
Sudden Cardiac Arrest occurs when the heart’s electrical system malfunctions. It can affect anyone, at any age, even without a history of heart problems. Recognize the signs of cardiac arrest and understand the urgency—every second matters when providing immediate care.
207 - Chain of Survival
Saving the life of a sudden cardiac arrest victim depends on taking quick action. Critical steps include: early recognition and calling 9-1-1, performing CPR to maintain circulation, using a defibrillator promptly to correct the heart’s electrical issue, and ensuring rapid access to advanced cardiac life support and specialized post-arrest care.
208 - CPR (Cardio-Pulnonary Resuscutation)
Key initial steps include checking for responsiveness, starting chest compressions, and opening the airway. It’s also important to consider when rescue breaths are appropriate. Learn the correct CPR techniques and positioning for adults, children, and infants, with a focus on delivering high-quality chest compressions. Understand both individual and team-based approaches to performing CPR effectively.
209 - AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
Defibrillators are compact, lightweight, portable, and battery-powered devices that deliver an electric shock to a quivering (fibrillating) heart. They are easy to use—simply prepare the chest, attach the electrode pads, and follow the device’s voice or visual instructions.
210- Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (Choking)
Learn to distinguish between mild and severe choking. Understand the appropriate treatment methods for choking victims who are conscious, unconscious, or pregnant.
211 - Advanced Bleeding Control
Identify and manage severe, life-threatening bleeding using direct pressure, military-style tourniquets, and wound packing techniques.
212 - Bleeding Injuries
Identify signs of internal bleeding and provide appropriate care for amputations, abdominal injuries, minor head and facial wounds, nosebleeds, and other common bleeding situations.
213 - Wounds and Bandaging
Learn to identify various types of wounds and how to properly clean and disinfect them using BZK towelettes. Gain practical skills in applying adhesive bandages, dressings, and other bandaging materials.
214 - Animal Bites
All bites carry potential risks. Snake and insect bites can involve harmful venom, leading to severe bleeding, breathing difficulties, or allergic reactions. Tick and leech bites may result in infections or transmit diseases such as Lyme disease.
215 - Burns
Burn scene safety and prevention strategies are crucial. Burns are classified based on their cause, depth, and severity. Treatment varies for different types of burns, including thermal, chemical, electrical, and radiation burns.
216 - Medical Emergencies
Identify and manage emergencies related to diabetes, epilepsy, asthma, and allergic reactions.
